This is the first time I've felt the urge to make a journal entry here, apart from a short introduction that I wrote when I first joined. I just wanted to mark the occasion of the purchase of my new Nikon D70 and gloat a little!

I won't physically have it for another week yet, as one of my best friends bought it for me overseas and won't be in Brisbane until the weekend after next. I bought the kit lens and will be saving up for a macro lens as soon as I can.

This is big news for me, because almost everything in my gallery so far has been created with a 2MP camera. It's a great little camera, all things considered... but there are obvious limitations when working with such a low resolution. I'm very much looking forward to finer detail, better results in low light and the ability to make and sell prints to help me pay for my new lens! I'll be hanging onto my Canon IXUS 300 however, as I've found the picture quality to be phenomenal when compared to its competition. Besides, I've made a rule for myself to never leave the house without a camera, and I'm sure I won't be lugging the D70 everywhere I go.

While I'm waiting for my new toy I'm tidying up my current photo archives, burning everything to DVD and setting up a better system for sorting my raw files. I've also decided that the time has come for a shiny new domain, but I'm not buying something that I don't love. am-pm.org was great for a while, but I've turned into a .com snob and want something more permanent.

There are other big changes on the horizon. I'll be finishing my jazz course halfway through next year, and after that I'll be heading to Melbourne to live. I'm desperately in need of a big shake-up, and Melbourne has plenty to offer me. The music and cultural scene there is fantastic, and the lifestyle appeals. I hardly know anybody there but I'm lucky enough to be moving in with one of my best mates. Oh, and I'll have broadband so you'll probably be seeing more of me around here!

Over the next few months I plan to photograph Brisbane to within an inch of its life. When my D70 arrives I will renew my DA subscription and practise all I can with my new toy. I know it's been pretty sleepy in my account lately, but things are gonna change around here soon
